What is on the TEAS TEST?

The ATI TEAS VI test is used by many schools as an admissions test for candidates seeking entrance into a nursing program. The exam is similar in purpose to the SAT or ACT, and the exam is developed and administered by ATI.

The test is intended to assess a candidate's aptitude in reading, math, science, and English and language usage. Studies have shown that the TEAS test is an accurate predictor of early success in a nursing program. The four subtests contain a total of 170 questions, of which only 150 are scored. Candidates are given a total of 209 minutes to complete all four sections. Test-Guide.com provides a TEAS practice test for each of the subtest topics. The TEAS subtests are summarized below.

TEAS Exam - Reading

There are 53 total questions (47 scored and 6 pretest/not scored) in the TEAS reading subtest, with the test having a 64-minute time limit.

The main purpose of this portion of the TEAS exam is to determine a student's reading comprehension abilities. Students are presented with reading passages and asked questions to assess their ability to understand what they've read. Questions will also be presented that require a student to interpret maps, labels, measuring tools, directions, and graphs.

TEAS Exam - Mathematics

There are a total of 36 questions (32 scored and 4 pretest/not scored) in the TEAS math subtest. Students are given 54 minutes to complete the section. The areas covered by the math section of the TEAS exam are: number and algebra, and measurement and data.

TEAS Exam - Science

The TEAS science subtest has a 63-minute time limit and contains 53 questions (47 scored and 6 pretest/not scored). The TEAS science subtest covers three main topics: human anatomy and physiology, life and physical science, and scientific reasoning.
